Deploying The Remote Server: How to Set Up A Realm Crafter Server On AWS Lightsail Hosting- Pt 1

You want to set up a Realm Crafter Server on an AWS Virtual Host but you're not sure how to do it.  In Part 1 of this multipart series, I'll explain how to deploy an AWS Lightsail Virtual Server to hold your Realm Crafter game.

Deploying The AWS Lightsail Remote Server

Deploying a virtual host on the AWS Lightsail service is easier than it looks.  Amazon has provided a Configuration Wizard that takes you through the steps.

In this article, I'll show you how I set up my Realm Crafter Server on an AWS Lightsail virtual host.

First, go to the AWS Lightsail website: https://lightsail.aws.amazon.com

If you already have an Amazon account, you can sign in with that, otherwise, create a new account.

Lightsail is Amazon's budget virtual hosting service.  They recommend it for developers.

Once you log in, you’ll see the AWS Lightsail Services Home Screen.

We want to make a new virtual machine instance:

Select Create instance.

Under Instance location, leave the default.

Under PIck your instance image select Microsoft Windows.

Select a blueprint (OS Only).  In this example, we are choosing Windows Server 2012 R2.

Under Choose your instance plan, select the $12/mo plan (1 GB, 1 vCPU, 40 GB SSD, 2 TB Xfer).

Under Identify your instance, use a name that makes sense.  For this example we use RC_Server_Win_2012.

Your server is ready to deploy.

Click Create Instance.

You should get a Pending notice while AWS builds your virtual server.

The build process takes about 2-3 minutes, so please be patient.

When the virtual server is ready, you will get a Running message.

Click the name of your new virtual server.

You will see the dashboard for your new AWS Lightsail virtual server.

Congrats!

Your Turn. What Do You Do?

Were you able to create your own AWS Lightsail virtual host?  What was the hardest part?  What was the easiest part?

Tell me about it in the Comments Section.  I'm interested in how I can improve this article to make it easier to deploy virtual hosts on the AWS Lightsail service to host your Realm Crafter Server.
